I realized I never posted up my finished self portrait onto my Blog! so here it is...

A good time to say, I don't think presentations are the right way to go about grading someones work. They are good for showing final work, but not to be graded. You can't really SEE what someone has done when they show their 3D models as a 2D screen grab. You can easily cheat your work into looking good this way.
I put allot of slides into my presentation that were purely about the process of creation. This is very important. Even though it is not what we were asked to show. I found it strange that the whole term we were told that is all about process and a number of iterations to show improvement, its all about what you have learnt in the time period and how much you have improved. Yet, our final grades were being determined by one model one a 2D slide being flashed past peoples eyes.
I didn't want the effort I'd put in to be ignored, so i went against the rules and included all my process work.
I also found it strange how people were praised for going 'beyond the brief' when is was apparent that they hadn't fulfilled the actual brief to there full potential. This was obvious to me, as I'm around the class allot of the time. Though its true that I don't see all of the classes progress.
Talking of the class, the day projects are fantastic. They are great for speeding up your modeling. Last week I made the Wrong Trousers. I'm not at all happy with them, the proportions just look wrong. So, I'm throwing them out to be forgotten. Badness makes this Bad.
This week I made a Korok from Windwaker. This was really fun! I'm pleased with the way it has turned out. I'm going to hopefully put it into unreal before next week and cell shade it up! I also make the other 6 koroks, and I'm in the process of texturing them atm. That must be put aside for the moment while I continue with the Queens building project.
Talking of the Queens Building project, I don't like it. I haven't worked in industry, so I can't say for sure, But, I'm thinking that this isn't much like it. I'm hoping that in industry you would be working with people you could trust to do there jobs correctly. They were hired after all, so they can't be too bad. I also think you would be working very closely together, everyday, which would help out a great deal. You would have one network to keep all of you work compiled.
Another thing I don't like is that I seem to have put learning aside for this project. I'm a weak 2D artist, and I'm not getting the time I need to work on my 2D. Its keeps being said that its more important to have artistic ability than technical skill. I can pick up technical things fairly quickly, and it bothers me that I'm spending allot of my time at uni not learning what I need.
It would be nice if this project wasn't such a focal point of the term. My modeling speed is increasing, but at a great cost. I almost feel like not doing the same quantity of work for the project so I can do my own work. But I can't do that, as its just not me.
